Phase I & II Renovations
The Athens YMCA's current facility was built in 1967. As such, the YMCA's staff and board have been working on addressing components of the facility that need some renovations and repair — "R & R"
The YMCA completed a master renovation architectual design in 2009 with the estimated cost to complete the plan at $13,000,000. Needless to say, that is a lot of money for the Athens YMCA to try and raise. Thus, the board determined the most pragmatic way to address the facility "R & R" needs was to do projects in a phased timeline.
Phase I — Completed 2009
- Regulation, 8 lane softsurface outdoor track
- Expanded/Renovated Aerobic Room (added space, flooring, 2 HVAC units, stereo, cubies, fitness equipment)
- Added a new women's only workout room (cardio equipment, weight machines, ab area)
Phase II — Completed 2010
- Renovated the front lobby (bathrooms, member check-in, lounge, security system)
- Child watch expansion
- Spin Room (bikes, HVAC, flooring, mirrors, stereo)
- Men's Health Club (lockers, new tile in showers/toilet area, paint, t.v., furniture)
- Fitness Center (new hardwood flooring in the cardio area, t.v.'s, painting)
- Racquetball Courts (re-surface, paint, misc. repairs)
- Facility "Face Lift" (painting, carpet, signage)
Misc. Upgrades
- New phone system
- New website
- Computer software for program & membership
- Indoor pool lane lines
As for a Phase III — the board and staff are in the process of determining the next step in the renovation process: project identification, prioritizing, cost estimates, etc. The plan is to keep working on the "phase projects" over the next several years — some of the master plan goals are the following pieces:
- Renovate the Men's & Women's Locker Rooms
- Youth Locker Rooms
- Indoor Pool
- Outdoor "Splash Zone"
- Fitness Center
- Youth Room
- Athletic Field House
